When Hafidh Fageeh started working at Summer Island Maldives 5 years ago as a boat crew, he was just 18. The youngster, who hails from Naifaru island in Lhaviyani Atoll, has blossomed at the resort. At 23, he is a full time transport coordinator, as well as the content creator for the property, taking beautiful photographs and videos of the island.
A usual day for Fageeh starts well before 7am, while most guests are still asleep. He wanders around the island photographing serene moments before the hustle and bustle starts for the day. By 9am he starts coordinating the resort’s transport - transfers to and from the airport, trips to Male’, the Maldivian capital, excursion trips, and boat crews for each vessel. On busy days, he jumps in to help out as a boat crew.
One of Fageeh’s favorite days at work was during a guest transfer to the resort from Male’, early on in his career. It was a very rough day at sea, with heavy monsoon rains and strong waves battering the speedboat. It was so rough, some people were vomiting. One of the guests on board was a 4 year old little girl who was scared by the bad weather. Fageeh recalls sitting next to her and comforting her. She calmed down immediately and was oblivious to what was going on around her. Fageeh vividly remembers feeling at peace despite the tempest around him.
Fageeh’s exploration into the world of photography started after participating in a free photography training which also landed him his first camera, a Nikon D3200. After starting work at Summer Island, he joined the resort’s lead photographer for shoots, as a hobby, and before long was conducting his own photoshoots. When asked what he would like to be known for, Fageeh says photography.
Fageeh is an excellent worker, loved by his fellow coworkers and guests. Make sure to say ‘hi’ to him if you run into him on the island!
